Students from kindergarten through 12th grade learned about the power of legumes in our first “Try-It Tuesday” of the year. Pictured are samples of the refried beans all students were offered and encouraged to try. Did you know beans are packed with protein to keep you strong, give you energy for class and sports, and help your brain stay focused? Our students do now!

Last Friday, Whitley County Consolidated Schools' entire third-grade class experienced the excitement and wonder of the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne—a cherished community tradition that has delighted local students for more than half a century.
Thanks to the generous Shriners and Whitley County Shrine Club, every third-grade student received a free tickets to the spectacular event. This long-standing tradition allows children to enjoy a memorable day of entertainment at no cost to their families.
"The Shriners are all about kids. We have hospitals for children but we care about all kids. We're grateful to be able to do it,” said Joe Simon, the Shrine Circus coordinator for Whitley County.
Third-grade students are even escorted by police to the Fort Wayne Coliseum for the event.
“This is so fun for our students. They love when the Shriners ride our bus over and spend the day with us. It’s great to get our students into the community too. Often students want their parents to go to another performance. It’s a trip they talk about for years; we still hear from former students about how fun the circus is,” said Jacqueline Snoddy, Coesse Third Grade Teacher.
The circus outing provides more than just entertainment. It offers students a unique educational experience outside the classroom, exposing them to performances and exciting acts that spark imagination and create lasting memories.
This incredible gesture by the local Shrine Club demonstrates their commitment to the community and children's experiences. For 72 years, they have been bringing joy to students throughout the region with circus tickets, embodying the organization's mission of supporting youth.
The smiles, laughter, and wide-eyed wonder of our third graders serve as a testament to the Shriners' ongoing dedication to making childhood special.

We’re excited to announce Officer Lewis Fuller as the new Student Resource Officer (SRO) at Columbia City High School!
Officer Fuller brings 15+ years of experience to our communty and joined to Columbia City Police Department this past November.
“This is my home. I was born and raised here, I coach here, and my kids attend school here. It was an opportunity for me to be back in this community,” shared Officer Fuller, who has a senior and an eighth grader in the district.
As SRO, Officer Fuller’s primary duties will include ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and building, addressing crimes on campus, and serving as a mentor and positive role model. He will also act as a liaison between the school and local law enforcement.

🥗 Tasty Learning in Family Skills Class! 🍎
Yesterday, our 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students participated in a taste testing, exploring the components of school breakfast and lunch. Students sampled various foods and provided valuable feedback about our salad bar options.
Our young food critics shared thoughtful insights about flavors, textures, and what they'd love to see more of in future meals. It was a fantastic hands-on way to learn about balanced nutrition and food choices.
Another taste testing opportunity is scheduled for today!

Dear WCCS Families and Staff,
At approximately 3:37 p.m., WCCS was notified of a 911 text message that came through the Whitley County Sheriff Dispatch. Dispatch was able to gather the geo-location, which showed the message came from the north side of the Columbia City High School parking lot, where buses park at dismissal with both middle and high school students present.
Joining administration, several members of the CCPD, CCFD, and ISP arrived at CCHS and did a walkthrough of the building. At 4:05 p.m., law enforcement identified the owner of the cell phone and left to make contact with the family.
We acknowledge the seriousness of this offense and will act accordingly with our policies and work with law enforcement. The owner of the cell phone was identified and there is no threat at any WCCS campus.
Please know, safety is a top priority and we encourage - if you see something or hear something, say something.
As with any school safety incident, we will debrief and review our practices and procedures. We extend our appreciation to our local law enforcement for their work.

Due to icy conditions in the northern half of our district, Whitley County Consolidated Schools is on a two hour delay for Thursday December 12, 2024.
