Second and third graders in the Nutcracker group have been working on researching famous artists and then recreating one of their artists' artworks! They had to complete their research, choose an artwork, and then choose a new medium to recreate that piece.

Our fourth graders headed down to Indianapolis last week to learn more about our great state.
They got to see Indiana history come to life at the Indiana State Museum. Next they walked along the canal to see the Congressional Medal of Honor monument and the 9/11 memorial.
The classes finished by getting a tour of our incredible state capital building where they got to sit in the seats of our legislators, see the Indiana Supreme Court, and even walk through the historic vault.

The CCMA students visited all four of our elementary schools to do a teddy bear clinic with all kindergartners.
The kindergartners visited 10 different stations including registration where students got to name their bear and get a wristband put on their bear.
Then was height and weight here their bear was measured and weighed. They moved to vital signs where we checked the bear's temperature, blood pressure, and students got to "hear" their bear's heartbeat by putting on a stethoscope and the CCMA students tapped on it to simulate a heartbeat.
They then moved to surgery where we removed the "bearpendix" from their bear. The kindergartners then moved on to having their bear's ears, and eyes checked. The bears had x-rays taken and students were given an x-ray of their teddy bear.
Finally, they moved to dental where they learned about brushing their teeth, and received a toothbrush, toothpaste, timer, and coloring book. Students learned about vaccinations and got to "give" their bear a shot.
Lastly, they went to a bandaging station where we wrapped their bear's arm up to help stop the bleeding from the shot.
This was all done to help teach kids that going to the doctor, the hospital, and the dentist doesn't need to be a scary experience.
It was also to help teach the CCMA students how to communicate and teach children about different health situations in which they may work once they graduate from our CTE program.

For the final month of school, Kindergarten has been doing an ABC Countdown where each day has a specific theme or activity that goes with each letter of the alphabet.
Today Miss Stoner's class completed activities for letters "L" & "M". They had a luau and listened to music while they learned! Everyone hopped on a plane and flew to Hawaii! Students experienced their own luau in the classroom. Students learned fun facts about Hawaii as well as how to hula and play ukulele. They finished the day designing sandcastles before heading back "home."

Coesse Kindergarten hosted the Kindy 500!! Students worked hard to create cardboard race cars at home and then raced each other!

Second grade has been working on state research projects!
Each student chose a state and then conducted research on that state. After completing a final copy, they practiced presenting their research with partners before presenting to the class! They did a great job.
Mrs. W's class has also had a guest reading coming in on Fridays to read to the class, they have gotten to hear some awesome books!

Second grade has been working on their Flat Stanley project over the last month or so.
They began by listening to the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown and completing comprehension tasks. They then wrote letters to family and friends and mailed out Flat Stanley to go on adventures.
Once he started returning we mapped all the locations he went and shared pictures from his adventures! He traveled pretty far (some even out of the country) and he may still be enjoying his trip(s)! We even got some cool items and treats that came back from some places too!

Second grade has been working super hard on their Egg Drop projects!
Before we began, students listened to the book After the Fall by Dan Santat. Students then brainstormed and created a design, wrote predictions about whether or not they thought their device would protect their egg, predicted how many eggs would survive, crack, or completely break, and then built their device using whatever materials they thought would work best.
We then went outside and dropped our eggs from the top of the slide and graphed how many were in each category and wrote about whether or not their device worked and why!
They had a great time during this process!

It's that time of the year, we encourage all parents/guardians to complete online registration!
Spring registration is open until May 30, 2025. Registration helps us create class sizes, transportation routes, staff support and more!
Registration must be completed in a browser and cannot be completed through the Skyward App. We've created step-by-step instructions to get started!

During the month of March, the students and staff showed how lucky they felt to have certain people, experiences, and things in their lives!
We loved to see how full the board became throughout the month!

It's tasting day! After collecting for a few weeks, Mr. Rose's and Mrs. Hare's class got to finally taste the syrup made from their sap.
One of the students said, "I'm pretty sure this is the BEST syrup I've ever tasted!" It's safe to say that the fourth graders loved learning about and helping produce their own maple syrup!

On Monday, Coesse Second and Third graders had a visit from the Fort Wayne Children's Choir Directors.
The directors spoke to students about what choir is like and led them through fun singing exercises and solfege warm-ups.
Founded in 1984, the Fort Wayne Children's Choir has nearly 250 singers from schools all over the area and is dedicated to developing musical skills, building confidence, and creating lifelong memories through the joy of singing. Their mission is to provide high-quality choral music education for children ages 6-18.
Thank you to the directors for visiting and helping to spread their love for music!
