The Whitley County Consolidated Schools board of school trustees held a public hearing regarding the proposed $5.36 million GEO bond project, which encompasses essential facility maintenance including HVAC upgrades, technology and security enhancements, and parking lot repairs. Financial advisors and administration confirmed that the bond project will not raise the current tax levy, and the debt service levy is expected to decrease in 2027, reducing the overall tax burden for the community. The anticipated tax rate for 2027 will be $0.84, a decrease from the 2026 rate of $0.88.

Following the hearing, the board unanimously approved three key resolutions to advance the project, setting repayment across roughly three years starting in 2027. Legal procedures for the bond will now move forward, and the public hearing for the 2027 budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan has been set for October 12 with final adoption scheduled for October 26.

In other business, the board approved routine consent agenda items, adopted a revised student attendance policy, and authorized the disposal of obsolete technology equipment.

Celebrations and recognitions were shared across multiple schools, highlighting events such as homecoming festivities, career days, and family STEM nights. Superintendent Dr. Lehman provided updates on upcoming district activities, including staff development focusing on state assessment results, parent-teacher conferences, and an upcoming strategic planning process with district leadership. The session concluded with announcements regarding upcoming board work sessions and meetings scheduled for Oct. 12 and Oct. 26 to accommodate the school year calendar.
