Columbia City High School is proud to announce that two students have earned their Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) this year through the school’s Career and Technical Education CDL program. Will Arnold completed his testing in the fall, and Landin Parrish successfully tested just last week.

The CDL initiative is a partnership between Columbia City High School, Garrett High School, and the Center for Transportation Safety. The program provides hands-on training, classroom preparation, and access to equipment and testing resources, enabling eligible seniors to earn a non-restricted Class A CDL before graduation.

Taught by Tina Carlos of the Center for Transportation Safety, the class includes instruction, preparation materials and the truck used throughout the program. Students learned to drive along U.S.30 at a site from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

“Earning a CDL while still in high school opens immediate career pathways for our students and strengthens the local workforce. We’re grateful to the Center for Transportation Safety, Tina Carlos, and INDOT for making this opportunity possible,”  said Jennifer Reiff, WCCS Career and Technical Education Director.

Enrollment for the CDL program will open again next spring. Seniors who meet the program qualifications and are interested in pursuing a CDL are encouraged to contact the Career and Technical Education office.
