WCCS PROUDLY RECOGNIZES THE TEACHER AND STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY
Whitley County Consolidated Schools congratulates the February Teacher of the Month and Staff of the Month winners.
Lydia Riecke, Third Grade teacher at Coesse Elementary School, was recognized as the teacher of the month for February 2026.
"The word exceptional is defined as "unusually good" or "outstanding." A sub definition of the word should include "Lydia Riecke, third grade teacher at Coesse Elementary." Miss Riecke consistently goes above and beyond expectations in her typical day.... She holds high expectations for every student in her room, while maintaining compassion and realizing individual needs. She strategically places kids in groups, knowing one might need a good peer model, while another might need an encouraging friend to help build confidence in a skill," said Riecke's nominator.

Daniell Schuchman, Food Service Manager at Coesse Elementary School, was recognized as the Staff Member of the Month for February 2026.
"Mrs. Schuchman cares for the Coesse students beyond just providing their breakfasts and lunches. She works at knowing the students, understanding their preferences, and taking time to build relationships with them. The grace and support she gives is extremely helpful, not only to the students, but for the staff. She wants to make sure the staff is equipped with students whose needs are met. We are so thankful for her kindness and understanding."
The winners were awarded a certificate, a floral design from Bravo Floral, and a t-shirt voucher for WCCS swag from Running Around Screen Printing. Thank you, Bravo Floral and Running Around Screen Printing!
WCCS is grateful to our exceptional teachers and staff who serve our community well. Each month, nominations are taken from co-workers, families, and the community and then winners are chosen from a selection committee made up of community members, service organizations, a WCCS School Board member, and WCCS staff.
Through May, we will honor a WCCS teacher and a WCCS staff member who go above and beyond, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to academic excellence, innovative teaching methods, and fostering a positive, engaging learning environment. These exemplary educators embody the WCCS values of Eagle P.R.I.D.E. - Persistence, Respectfulness, Initiative, Dependability, and Efficiency.
