WJHS Expanding On-Air, Files for License
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: WJHS Expanding On-Air, Files for License
Hello from Columbia City High School’s radio station. First, thank you for supporting the students! Below are details on student-run events, a look towards the future for WJHS, and stories from individual students.
STUDENT NUMBERS:
Currently 24 hours each week have student DJs on the air.
This semester Radio Club started with just 12 students. WJHS helps each student to create content. WJHS encourages students in their own projects too such as youtube, and podcasting. WJHS 91.5 continues creating opportunities for students to grow and be involved, nearly everyday before and afterschool. Now 40+ students receive Radio/Video Club updates each week.
STUDENT EVENTS:
STICKER DRIVE WRAP UP (picture below)
The goal of the “Cover the Wall” Sticker Drive is to let the students see they are part of something bigger than just playing music. The team is happy to report hundreds of stickers being donated so far. WJHS 91.5 thanks you for your stickers! Our wall is looking great.

GREAT MUSIC GIVEAWAY
The Student-Promotions Team put together a 100% student-run event called the Great Music Giveaway. The team gift-wrapped and gave almost two-thousand albums to the student body.
FUTURE:
WJHS BUILDING NEW STUDIOS
New TV & Radio studios are being built at the new high school. The progress is amazing. Right now the room has a green screen, but little other technical equipment in the active construction zone. The studio windows are in! The space feels like a professional station.
WJHS LICENSE BEING FILED
WJHS is on schedule filing the paperwork with the FCC for license renewal. Filing is a multi-step process and will be completed in April. Listen in at 91.5 FM for updates.

PERSONAL STORIES:
Student ‘Jamie’ is a freshman who has never done any public speaking outside of class. At the beginning of the semester Jamie was visibly shaking after trying to be on-the-air live for the first time. At the time, she could not even turn the microphone on. But she told the teacher Mr. Glaza that she still wanted to try, but another day. Jamie is now is on-the-air every week. She now helps by coaching other students.
Student 'Thomas’ is a sophomore who initially came to Audio Video Club after school because his friends were going. He is not interested in many of his classes. His friends encouraged him to ‘try’. At first he sat back not getting involved, but was silently observing. Thomas then one day showed up without his friends. Students are allowed to ‘borrow’ equipment for use in other classes. Thomas surprisingly went thru the training to check-out equipment. Thomas now has new friends he works with on a half podcast/half radio show each week.
