Storage for
clubs/athletics |
|
Durability
(College dorms and buildings/classrooms can last
for 100 years, and yet our previous H.S.
couldn’t last for more than 60!) |
|
Student
Government meeting room |
|
Storage closets
in classrooms |
|
Classroom
growth room (Classrooms as teacher #’s
fluctuate) |
|
Is there a
commons area? |
|
The auditorium
needs to seat entire school body for
school presentations and for function in the
evening. (1,500 – 2,000 students) |
|
Are we
considering growth for the number of
classrooms? 48 is a small number! |
|
Build a school
for 1,500 students |
|
Is there a
commons area for student gatherings? |
|
Where is
guidance area located? |
|
We want to be
located by/within student services
– nurse
area? Resource – Sp. Ed. Department |
|
We need to be
close to administration also |
|
Office areas
for teachers away from students |
|
Nature area
close enough to science building/classrooms to
utilize/help bring real world into school |
|
Classroom areas
within close proximity to departments |
|
Look at the
ability to recycle on large scales at the new
facility |
|
Meeting areas
for extracurricular activities |
|
It is important
to consider how the square footage compares to
the current building (for example, how many
classrooms in the new building vs. the current
building) |
|
A 21st
century building complex that is highly energy
efficient; possibly meeting "green" guidelines
for the type of materials used in the
construction process |
|
Rooms that are
large enough for dual-class participation, and
possibly a couple of theatre type lecture rooms |
|
Large open
areas can be functional for group meetings |
|
Mainly due to
the limitations and restrictions of our current
facility – structurally, educationally,
athletically, etc… |
|
I think it
would be important to look at problem areas that
will come up due to building on the ISMS site –
sharing athletic facilities seems as if it might
be very problematic |
|
Facilities that
will help current programs expand and bring our
youth into the future |
|
Space –
currently students are on top of each other when
moving through the halls or sitting in
classrooms |
|
We need space
to move around so students can work on projects
in the classrooms |
|
We need a place
that the community can be involved in and not
just remember the building as a place they went
to school |
|
An educational
center that develops high school students in
becoming successful adults in the community they
choose to live! |
|
A facility that
prepares students to meet the challenges that
will enable them to be successful after leaving
CCHS! |
|
A facility that
the total community can take ownership of and be
proud of! |
|
A facility that
our younger students will look forward to coming
to! |
|
We are the
furthest behind in terms of interior efficiency,
technology, infrastructure, and athletic
facilities |
|
We also need
strong leadership to guide our new school
and give us a global perspective of education
and this community |
|
A student
service center that houses guidance, career
development, internship, ICE and nurse |
|
A comprehensive
career development center that would be
available not only to students, but to parents
in helping them develop resume, writing,
interviewing, and career exploration/development
skills |
|
Community and
business leaders could offer workshops and
seminars on subjects ranging from financial
management to career transitions |
|
We would like
flexibility spaces to do cooperative learning
across ED specialty |
|
The era of
teacher-lecturer is over; students need the
space and equipment that will allow them to
break into self-directed learning circles. The
classrooms in the current high school lock us
into teaching methods that are 25 years past
their effectiveness. As long as we remain in
their building, we are cemented to antiquated
methods. |
|
Classrooms –
large amounts of white board space that allows
for various class/seating constructions to help
in differentiating instruction |
|
Be able to
control the temperature in individual classrooms
for student comfort |
|
Lifelong
learning activities in the building so the
structure and security of the building should
promote and encourage access to the building
after hours |
|
The structure
of the new building will promote
cross-curricular education |
|
The new
structure will promote the use of modern
technology in every classroom |
|
A facility that
is adequate for all the needs of CC students for
the next 50 years |
|
Athletic
facilities, educational facilities and plenty of
space in the entire complex |
|
Adequate space
– classes, common areas, parking, staff parking |
|
Large student
commons area – needed |
|
Are 48
classrooms enough for 60-70 teachers/staff |
|
What are the
exploratory labs |
|
A large common
area for displays, a gathering place for
students, large working projects area for clubs |
|
Large art area
to accommodate all our different subjects we
teach (photo, graphic design, computer art,
ceramics, crafts – stain glass, jewelry, fiber,
drawing, painting, batiks, and 3-D |
|
Commons area? |
|
More than "just
enough" classrooms |
|
When (if)
anyone complains about the "new" CCHS, have them
come out to the portables |
|
May the
portables get new carpeting in the meantime?
The current carpet is worn and ragged. |
|
Teachers will
need a common collaboration/office space within
each department |
|
I question
whether 400 seats is adequate for cafeteria –
barely adequate for current numbers without an
increase in student population |
|
Just from
observation, it appears that the classrooms at
CCHS are not big enough to accommodate 30+
students |
|
Large
classrooms that allow opportunities for group
activities |
|
Storage area in
each class to create better atmosphere in
instruction area |
|
Commons area
for students to relax and interact |
|
Current
building is very uncomfortable. When I taught
at the middle school, the temperature was
controlled by a central unit. E-mail
maintenance and the temperature was changed by
the computer. My heat is off and my room is
like a boiler room. I sweat in the winter and
the kids complain about the heat. We open
windows and half the room freezes…I want to
teach and not waste classroom time making
everyone comfortable. This was a non-factor in
a new building. |
|
We currently
have a preschool with our Child Development
Classes. We have done this for 25 years. We
want to continue this: Be sure we have room for
it. |
|
Outside plans
are more detailed than inside at this point;
however, I don’t see a dedicated band practice
field. Will it be on grass or pavement? Will
the construction of a "rehearsal tower" be
included? |
|
Inside –
rehearsal space for multiple winter ensembles.
Currently Winter Guard must rehearse at
Marshall. The only area for Winter drum
line is MPR which is in high demand. |
|
Space for staff
members |
|
Enough space
for everyone in the department to be together |
|
Department
offices |
|
Classrooms that
are large enough to hold and effectively educate
30+ students per classroom |
|
Suitable
cafeteria to feed and serve a larger student
body |
|
Specified areas
of building for different subjects/content with
specific technology and resources that align
with each subject’s curriculum
- would
enable students to know exactly where to go to
find help or seek additional learning
opportunities |
|
Bicycle and
walking path that connects WCCS property with
the River Greenway |
|
Large
classrooms capable of comfortably seating 30+
students with enough room to move desks when
necessary |
|
Abundant
whiteboard space that is visible to all students
in the classroom |
|
Wider hallways
to prevent congestion between classes |
|
Classroom for
credit recovery program close to guidance would
be very essential for this programs continued
success |
|
We need lots of
options on design and classroom options to weigh
our curriculum with what we need |
|
Secure storage
space in science labs – safety |
|
Adequate
ventilation for science rooms – safety |
|
Ventilation for
art and kiln rooms |
|
Display areas
with locked showcases |
|
Locked storage |
|
Ability to
expand for future community growth |
|
Extra
classrooms for remediation and enrichment
activities, perhaps off of classrooms or per
department |
|
Science rooms
need lab space and storage |
|
More classroom
space for walking in between rows |
|
More storage
for classroom materials |
|
Wider hallways |
|
Bigger and
better lockers for students |
|
Better facility
for school nurse |
|
Make sure there
is ample practice space for all
extra-curricular (ex. Don’t forget marching
band for practice space) |
|
Commons area |
|
Delivery dock
– bay doors, ramps, loading and unloading
threshold plates |
|
Storage for
cleaning equipment and outdoor equipment (pole
barn) |
|
Storage for
supplies |
|
Official
security employees |
|
Wider halls |
|
Commons at/for
lunch time (a lot of students do not eat lunch
but are made to stay in the lunch room – these
students need somewhere to go) |
|
Much larger
clinic |
|
More storage |
|
A facility that
allows us to deliver a curriculum that our
students need now and in the future |
|
Curricular
areas together |
|
Storage
|
|
Great cabinets
and drawers for storage |
|
Display and
bulletin boards – talk to us |
|
I think the
focus should be on academics first. That leads
me to conclude that the library, media center,
technology area, etc. should be state of the art
– our link to future excellence as well
as current. |
|
More ability to
evenly heat and cool rooms |
|
Good elevator,
handicapped accessibility |
|
We need an
agricultural wing with space |
|
Lab room for
agriculture with lab table and computers |
|
Functional
shop, welding area, small engines area, and
greenhouse |
|
We need to look
at a different site because of room and space |
|
Priority One
– Establish a culture of learning based on
discipline, respect, hard work, creativity, and
WCCS’s core values. Without the establishment
of a new culture, we will be the same thing in a
new facility. |
|
Environments
and classrooms that allow movement and
collaboration (desks that are more like work
stations, allowing project based learning and
collaboration) |
|
Auditorium
– Seating to accommodate entire student body
with room to grow |
|
Stage
– dock and loading area. Back stage and side
stages need to be accessible from hallways,
band, and choir room. These side and back stage
areas need to be as large as the stage area
itself so that set pieces, costumes, and actors
have exit and storage space. The auditorium
needs a workshop for set building and painting.
It should be well ventilated and adjacent to a
dock area. Men’s and women’s dressing rooms
with shower and restroom facilities are needed.
State of the art light, sound, projection, and
communication systems must be considered. Our
auditorium is used daily by our school system
and regularly by our community. An inviting
lobby large enough to sell and serve concessions
would be a good idea since we won’t want food
and beverages inside the auditorium itself. |
|
The media
center, technology department, radio/TV and
video conferencing should all be connected – all
serve similarly the entire school (radio/TV
serves AV needs and supports use of LCD
projectors, etc.) Integration of technology
needs to be priority – all staff that serves
that purpose should be housed together and work
together to support staff and students. |
|
Green building
LEED design may cost more up front but saves a
lot over the long haul. Also critical for
saving the planet. |
|
We need to make
sure we have adequate size classrooms,
technology, as well as athletic facilities. We
must develop the complete package. We don’t get
the chance to do this everyday, so we need to
make sure we don’t cut corners and hinder the
project. |
|
Include:
Modern world language classrooms with
appropriate acoustics so students can
clearly hear the target language |
|
Include:
Modern world language classrooms that are
acoustically sound so students can hear and be
clearly heard as they perform in the target
language |
|
Be sure there
is wall space that is flexible enough to allow
for the movement of dry erase boards (so
students seating arrangements can be changed to
suit the changing learning environment) |
|
Include:
windows that open! |
|
Don’t forget to
include a semi-private area (office) where
teachers can collaborate |
|
Don’t forget to
include an area where teachers can create things
(posters, booklets, transparencies, signs) for
their classrooms |
|
No flat roofs
(leads to leak issues – ex. ISMS and CCHS) |
|
Larger
auditorium than on current plan – needs to seat
student body for presentations and meetings |
|
Maintain and
expand the program we have – no "cut" should
happen now |
|
Need to plan
for expansion – don’t want to lock in as we are
now |
|
Common space
for collaboration, meetings, joint projects |
|
Work/storage
areas for departments (near classrooms) |
|
More than 48
classrooms |
|
Bigger health
clinic |
|
Clinic near an
exit door that has a drive up entrance |
|
Clinic near
guidance/e-multi-cat room |
|
Has a shower |
|
Eye wash
station |
|
Conference room |
|
Storage room
and closet for extra clothing/supplies |
|
For those of us
who work here, it is obvious each and every day
why we need a new school. As hard as everyone
works to do the best with what we have, it is
impossible not to think about how much better
things could be if we could expend our energy
elsewhere. To begin with, the fact that our
kids have to exit the building during rain and
snow to get to 6 classrooms makes a new building
necessary. Classrooms made out of hallways are
also not the best configuration for optimal
learning. Some classrooms don’t even have
walls, just 6 foot tall borders. The auditorium
should be large enough for the entire school to
hear a speaker at the same time. The nurse’s
office – a place often packed with kids – is no
bigger than a closet. We have one conference
room that seats 7 people if you pack them in
just right. The building needs to be more
accessible to people with disabilities. We have
2 lifts that only fit one wheelchair each. To
get on the gym floor a person in a wheelchair
has to exit the building and enter the gym
through the back doors. The bathrooms are small
and hard for wheelchairs to maneuver in. With
only one gym, kids have to schedule practices
beginning at 6 am or in the evening until 9 pm.
Our kids shouldn’t have to travel across town to
practice their sport. The facility is just too
old to make do with any longer. Our kids need a
place where they can grow and get the best start
on life. |
